In 1837 Bela Fletcher manufactured melodians in the Connecticut River Valley in New Hampsire. After the turn of the Century, the Fletcher’s came to the Chemung River Valley where Edgar Fletcher became one of the finest piano technicians in Pennsylvania and New York. The first Fletcher’s Music store was founded in Hornell in 1928 by Malcom Fletcher. After WWII in 1948 Harmon Fletcher opened a music store on the Lake Road in Horseheads.
John Mu purchased the Horseheads Fletcher's in 1980 and then in September of 1995 along with Carolyn Mu, moved the entire business to the Arnot Mall which offered additional exposure and a greater convenience for customers. Today Fletcher’s Pianos, owned by John Mu and Carolyn Mu, has seven employees and remains the oldest and largest music store in the Southern Tier. Fletcher’s is a full line music store with ever popular Yamaha pianos, clavinovas, disklaviers, guitars, drums, new and used band and orchestra instruments, sheet music and a music boutique. Fletcher’s School of music, with twelve instructors, offers private lessons in piano, guitar, voice, band and string instruments.
